Gayndah to Canberra – Day 2

Posted on December 24, 2025December 24, 2025 by Geoff

Left the Gwydir Hot Springs Caravan Park in Moree at a little after 7am to drive to Coonabarabran and charge there. There was someone using the charger when we arrived but they did not take long to move on. So we plugged in and waited. Had some morning tea and talked with the people around the place.

Spoke with a guy working in the free coffee place there. It was interesting to hear how he had been told how useless EVs are and that he could never use on because every time they need to go to a shopping centre, he had to drive 100Ks. I explained that our situation was the same, but he would have none of it. He was sure that when the battery ran out after a couple of years it would cost $20,000 to replace it.

We drove on to Dubbo and charged up at the Tesla chargers available near the local art gallery. When we arrived, there was no one plugged into any of the four stalls but by the time we left, all stalls were full and two cars were waiting. For most of the day, the outside temperature was over 40C so we stayed in the car with the aircon running while we charged.

Charging at Dubbo in the 40C+ heat. Lucky we can’t read the sign on the bitumen.

Next stop was planned to be Cowra, but we hadn’t had any lunch yet so we drove till we could find a table in a rest area which had some shade. That ended up being a little town called Geurie. Never heard of it before but we stopped at any rate for some lunch. Having the fridge plugged into the car was most convenient as we could take it out of the car, use the contents and then return it to the car.

It was so over 40C.

We made it to Cowra at about 4pm and booked into the Cowra Van Park for a cabin. We have stayed at this place before, at least twice when we had the caravan. I wasn’t real keen to stay there because the owner was not particularly pleasant in the past. But there were new owners and they treated us much more professionally.

After we made it to Cowra and checked into our cabin. I went to charge up and while waiting found a Chinese Restaurant and purchased some Chinese Food, as you do, for our tea. It was very pleasant and there was enough left over for another meal, which never did get because we forgot to load it into our mobile fridge. Lorraine put it in the cabin fridge to cool it down overnight and there it stayed.
