Saturday 13th September 2025 featured the the celebration of North Bundaberg State School 150 years of existence. While I am not musch into school things since I don’t have many positive memories of my twelve years at school, we decided to attend this celebration given the significance of the number of years involved.
I would have attended the school during the 1950s from grade 1 to grade 7. My father taught at the school and I had him as a teacher, I think, in year 7. There is very little of the present school that reminded me of what it was like in my day. And I didn’t meet one person who I would have known at the school. We spent most of the time with Trevor and Laurel and they knew lots of people to speak to.

One person we both knew was Mike Delaney. He was principal there when I taught instrumental music there in the late 1970s and he knew Trevor because he lived somewhere near him.
We walked around the grounds for much of the time we were there, also attended the official opening held in the hall. Interestingly Trevor met up with Ian Honor in the hall. Ian’s father was the principal at the school while I attended and we used to play with Ian under the principal’s house just about where the hall is situated at that time. It had clearly been removed to make way for the hall.
I did get into the library to have a look at some of the photos they had displayed there. Not much of interest but I did see a photo of my grade five class.

We stayed there until lunch time, when we had something to eat and then decided to go home.
