GAPPS members were a little busy over the first weekend in September, what with Gunther on Thursday 4th, Markets on Sunday 7th and Scootaville at the RSL in Tuesday 9th. e get to do the markets every second month since one of the children of the lady who runs the markets wants to play his recordings, I guess the DJ coming out in him. We hadn’t bden down there for a few months because the cold wind associated with winter makes it most uncomfortable to be outdoors. However, we got a go this month.
Lorraine and I went down at about 7.30am to set up the gazebo. That is not somethiing we can do by ourselves. Laurie is usually there to give us a hand. However he was suffering from a sore back so while he was there he was unable to do anything that might put some strain on his back. One of the managing family came over to help us and it all went up fairly easily.
I got to start playing a little after 8am and played through to almost 9.30 when GAPPS took over. It all worked quite well. We didn’t have a ukulele for Lorraine to play so she played mine and I played my guitar accoustily. That worked out quite well.
I then started playing solo after the hour of UKES but was stopped a short distance into my set by a gust of wind that almost blew the gazebo away. We had the back and side curtains installed, mostly for our own comfort and it was the curtains which created the main issue for the gust of wind. Once we took the curtains down, everything returned to something approching normality.
I played till about 11:15. The wind gust caused some dammage to my equipment, especially the wireless microphone so I was singing acoustic for much of the last set. I managed to get it working agan when we got home so there was no major damage done. Made it home by about 12 noon after struggling to get out of the venue around the dog wash vehicle.
