The above poinciana tree is on the foot path outside our house. It has flowered very well in spite of the relatively drought weather we have had for the last six months or more. We don’t do anything much to make it grow well. We had planted a couple of jacaranda trees on the foot path on the otherside of the drive way and have looked after them including tree food, mulching and watering. They seem to be growinig quite well but it will be a few years before if displays any flowers. We do trim the poinciana for any low hanging branches so that we can check the road as we back out of the drive way. It is one of the better flowering such trees around the place.
Poincianas are not native to Australia and in some ways they are a bit of a nuisance. Their root system is extensive but not deep and they tend to create problems for foot paths and any building to which they are near. It is not causing any troubles for at present and it is a pleasure to have it on the foot path.
Below are a few photos of some of the garden just inside our main gate. Lorraine does all the work with the gardens in our yard and it all looks very good.
