It was the third Wednesday of the month again today and the Gayndah Garden Club met for its final gathering of the year. And since it was the final meeting of the year, Christmas had to feature in the days activities. Lorraine drove out to the meeting, giving a couple of ladies a lift.
The gathering today was a little way out of town at Nola Darlington’s property on Binjour Plateau. Binjour is a small community on the Burnett Highway between Gayndah and Mundubbera. According to the most recent census, Binjour is home to 87 people.
The garden they visited today is up on the plateau and has an outstanding view out over the country looking towards Gayndah. It is also home to an outstanding garden, thanks to Nola’s gardening skills.
Binjour Plateau is known today for significant deposits of bauxite and for those living in Gayndah, there seems to be regular discussions as to how those deposits, if mined, might be transported to the coast for further shipping to smelting, probably in Gladstone. Gayndah is probably the major stumbling block to the proposed transport because the main road, the Burnett Highway, runs through its main street.
The ladies realy enjoyed their time on the Plateau, and as can be seen from the photos, food played a role in all of that.
