As can be seen from the photo above, we went and visited the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection at the the National Arboretum, Canberra. It was very impressive. I didn’t know what Penjing was so I had to go and look it up when I arrived home. I probably could have checked it out on my phone right then and there but I didn’t.
Penjing is the Chinese ancestor of Japanese Bonsai but which focuses on creating a whole scene or landscape in a pot. If I had known what it was, I would have tried to get some appropriate photos. Next time maybe.
Probably the best thing to do is show you the photos we took. As you can imagine, there are many more trees than has been shown by these photos. Some of the trees are older than us.
You will notice a reference to bush fire recovery in the last image. This display, and the surrounding facilities at the Arboretum, is built on the area burnt out by the bush fire in 2003.
Hope you enjoy them as much as we did looking at them all.
