Not sure if Burnett State College’s awards night each year is on November 11th, but it was this year. So Lorraine and I went to see how our family members fared. Our daughter, Tanya is Subject Master for the Senior School and her son Noah is finishing year 11 and her daughter Imogen is finishing year 9.
Imogen had the biggest job to do on the night because as one of the junior school leaders, she had to introduce the invited some of the guests to make presentations of the awards.

Imogen was also one of the students who received an academic medal . To achieve such a medal, they had to have achieved a ‘B’ or better standard in ten or more of the semester units studied.
Noah received a subject prize as top student in year 11 chemistry.

Imogen also received a special award, one of a series presented on the night to students who do not know they are to receive the award. So for Imogen it was a surprise. Her award was the Colin Bennett Memorial Award which was judged on the following:
This award is presented to a student in Year 9 who, during the year has set an example to other students in conduct and appearance, has displayed a high level of participation and interest in school activities and in the academic field has attained a standard in keeping with ability. Some of the characteristics considered are cooperation with staff and students, involvement, releability, leadership, diligence, sportsmanship and conduct.
