Arboretum

Posted on December 29, 2025December 29, 2025 by Geoff

We visited Canberra’s National Arboretum yesterday. Its history is interesting in that it is built in an area (250 hectares) that was devastated by the 2003 bush fire event. It has many rare and endangered trees. An arboretum is a “botanical garden devoted to growing trees for conversation, scientific research or educational purposes . . . The National Arboretum Canberra is the only monocultural (single species forests) of its size in the world.”

Looking back towards the Arboretum and the Telstra Tower in the background.
Looking down on the ampitheatre. Looks like a great place to have outdoor concerts.
A great place to fly kites. I wonder if anyone makes their own kites these days. The building in the background is the function centre. Lily’s year 12 class had their graduation in that venue.
We went to the National Arboretum yesterday and once again I had to learn what an Artoretum was. It is a very popular tourist vent with most of the car parks occupied.
